BEAT-Line is a choreographic work by Ľubomír Kútnik about returning to one’s own naturalness and authenticity. It is based on the image of a person shaped by the environment they come from — a person who adopts patterns of behaviour necessary for functioning, adapting and surviving, yet may gradually and almost imperceptibly move away from themselves. The work follows a process of awareness, confrontation and processing of experiences, emotions and inner layers that shape us, leading towards the rediscovery of identity and a return to what is natural to us.
The central expressive principle of the work is the connection between movement and music. The body becomes a resonator that hears, feels, expresses and visually interprets sound and emotion in space. Rhythm, vibration, dynamics and the character of individual instruments are transformed into physical expression. Through improvisational principles, partnering and work with structure, a space is created in which bodies connect, influence and transform one another. BEAT-Line is a journey of movement, sound, emotion and energy, searching for authenticity in the tension between synchronisation and dissonance, impulse and resonance, regularity and its disruption.
The work was created in the QUAKE format, which at Divadlo Štúdio tanca creates space for shorter authorial choreographic statements by members of the artistic ensemble.
