Dream

Dream is a dance performance for children, adults and families.

How does dreaming work in our brain? What is the meaning of dreaming?

How does dreaming work in our brain? What is the meaning of dreaming?

Dreaming is a journey into ourselves and the things that make us human. Dreams have inspired many myths and legends, and also the choreographer of the production and artistic director of Divadlo Štúdio tanca, Zebastián Méndez Marín. The performance attempts to juxtapose the world of waking and the world of sleeping in a vivid experience for the senses. How? Through convincing dance performances, a strong atmosphere and certainly humour. In addition to movement, in Dream you will see lighting design with theatrical magic, playful-magical set design, and captivating music. Set and costume designer Ivana Macková: “We work with the concept that SEN is actually a kind of modified reflection of reality. We will swim among the clouds or ride a magic bicycle.”

“Both the waking world and the dream world are just stories that our mind tells us. Can we shape our dreams while we sleep and can we change our reality while we are awake?” says Zebastián Méndez Marín.

The dream represents a rare place in the repertoire, as it is a performance mainly for children and families. In addition to our artistic ensemble, the children attending the dance and movement classes at Divadlo Štúdio tanca also perform in the show. (Co)working with local and international dance artists inspires, motivates and sends out ideas of tolerance, understanding and teamwork to the children. “The children are able to give themselves fully to the activity of the moment and not be distracted by what will be or what has been. They are the best players in life,” says assistant choreographer and director Lívia Balážová MM.

The dramaturgy assistance was provided by Monika Kováčova: “All of us dream – pleasant, scary, bizarre, un/memorable… – but have you ever dreamt by dancing?”
